Organizational efficiency is achievable but it takes a champion to focus the team on what it means to work efficiently and motivate others to look for ways to simplify business processes. It is always easier to keep doing it the way you always have rather than challenge the status quo.
As the efficiency champion you need to focus your efforts on the following:
- Identify the area(s) that can become more efficient quickly. These quick wins will demonstrate to your organization that efficiency is obtainable.
- Continually recognize the changes and acknowledge those who are making the changes. People are motivated to change when they are acknowledged.
- Persevere! The inefficiencies didn’t happen overnight nor will the solutions. Consider incremental milestones.
Identifying inefficient business processes and changing them is not easy for any organization but the key is to start the process, obtain a few quick wins then celebrate the successes so others will want to be a part of it.
